Chapter 318 - 411 Watching
As Ganju and Orihime call out to Kūkaku and Jidanbō, their voices filled with relief, who land on the hill, Aizen leaps out of the dust cloud, completely untouched, and is immediately restrained by Yoruichi Shihōin and 2nd Division Captain Sui Feng, who moved with the blinding speed of the Flash Master, with Yoruichi clutching his Zanpakuto and Sui Feng holding her Zanpakuto to his neck, the cold steel a final, desperate check.
Aizen comments on having not seen Yoruichi’s face in a long time as Yoruichi and Sui Feng promise he will lose his head if he even twitches a finger, their eyes narrowed in lethal concentration.
While Aizen acknowledges this, a calm surrender that belied his true power, Yoruichi calls out to Kūkaku as she stands on an approaching Jidanbō’s shoulder, prompting her to claim that she decided to check in while out on a walk because she has too much free time, the bravado a mask for the relief she felt.
Watching this from afar, Gin comments on the flashy nature of this assault and wonders what he should do, his eyes glancing at the new arrivals, only for 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto to appear behind him in a blur of motion and grab his left hand by the wrist while holding her Zanpakuto, still in its ash form, to his neck and ordering him to not move, her voice tight with raw emotion.
As Gin apologizes to Aizen for getting caught, his eyes never leaving Rangiku’s, Yoruichi tells him that it is over, her voice ringing with finality, and when Aizen expresses confusion, a single, cold arch of his brow, Yoruichi points out that he is surrounded, the weight of the assembled captains a tangible force.
Following this, Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto, 1st Division Lieutenant Chojiro Sasakibe, 2nd Division Lieutenant Marechiyo Omaeda, 7th Division Lieutenant Tetsuzaemon Iba, 8th Division Captain Shunsui Kyoraku, Lieutenant Nanao Ise, 9th Division Lieutenant Shuhei Hisagi, and 13th Division Captain Jushiro Ukitake appear as well, the collective Reiatsu of the Gotei 13 an overwhelming, suffocating blanket, with Hisagi holding his Zanpakuto to Tosen’s neck, the two former colleagues facing each other in grim silence.
While at a distance in the sky, a figure was enjoying the show. Eero is sitting in midair looking at Aizen below, who is being surrounded by all the captains, the whole scene a spectacular, grand finale.
"Well, the famous dialogue is incoming. It’s a classic. Although his explanations are boring, his dialogues are worth watching live. I was simply a huge fan of this guy, even before this life."
Eero muttered playfully, his voice a low, self-amused hum, while grabbing a few popcorn kernels from the box in his hand and putting them in his mouth, the salty crunch a stark contrast to the spiritual tension below, watching the Aizen interactions intriguingly.
Meanwhile, when Yoruichi asserts that it is over, Aizen merely smiles, a terrifying, confident gesture, and as Yoruichi demands to know what he finds so funny, her voice rising in suspicion, she is shocked when Aizen merely notes that it is time, his eyes flicking upward, causing her to instruct Sui Feng to leap back before accompanying her, their instincts screaming a final warning.
Suddenly, a yellow Negacion beam fell from the sky, a searing column of light and spiritual energy, Aizen is enveloped by it, causing the astonished other Shinigami to look up and see several Menos Grande teeming behind a massive Kumon, a swirling vortex of darkness, in the sky above them.
While the Menos Grande begin pushing out of the Kumon and separating, their hollow roars echoing across the Seireitei, a shocked Hisagi sees that there is something with a massive eye lurking behind them while Marechiyo wonders how many there are, his face pale with fear.
Suddenly, two more Negacion beams pierce the sky next to the Kumon and envelop Tosen, whom Hisagi leaps back from, the force of the light pushing him away, and Gin, who frees himself from Rangiku’s grasp with a sudden, violent twist and admits that he would not have minded being her prisoner for a while longer before apologizing, a rare moment of sincerity in his betrayal.
Seeing the patch of ground Aizen is standing on begin rising into the air, lifted by the Negacion beam, to the astonishment of those watching, Iba prepares to attack him, his Zanpakuto raised, but Yamamoto stops him, his hand resting on the Lieutenant’s arm, and explains that Negacion is a light that Menos Grande used to rescue each other and which cannot be breached because its contents are in another world, a protective barrier that defied even the Head-Captain’s power, meaning that Aizen was beyond their reach the moment it came down.
Despite his injuries, a bloodied Komamura forces himself up, his spiritual will refusing to accept defeat, and demands to know where Tosen’s sense of justice has gone if he became a Shinigami for his dead friend and to uphold justice, his voice a raw, heartbroken sound, only for Tosen to remind Komamura that he walks the path of least bloodshed, his own twisted logic a shield against self-recrimination.
After claiming justice is always present on this path, Tosen concludes the path he now walks is justice, a terrifying, blind certainty.
"Here it comes," Eero muttered, standing far away, still munching popcorn, glancing at Ukitake, who appeared and stood in front of Aizen, beaming below, the 13th Division Captain’s presence a final, desperate plea.
