Chapter 87: Shipping ~

Ripley had prepared breakfast for everyone, and the smell of bacon and eggs lured Yu Xiao downstairs. She saw him moving around the table, setting plates and napkins with a domestic flair like a diligent little housewife.

Yu Xiao was hit by a wave of flashbacks, recalling the blood and violence from her dream the night before. He was covered in blood and pleading for mercy.

He looked up as she entered the room, his face turning a shade of pink that matched the strawberry jam.

She touched her cheek, pondering if she had ever encountered anyone as bashful as him at the Sixth Hospital.

Zhao Lan entered with a cup of coffee in her hand. She nodded at Yu Xiao. “Coffee’s good, fancy a cup?”

The other patients were already eating and talking, mostly about Dr. Qu and her identity. Tan Qiao Yin was adamant that she was Yue Yue.

“Think about it,” she said, waving a fork. “It’s like that movie, you know, the one with the dreams and the inception and stuff. The kid is the mastermind behind everything. It makes sense.”

Ma Shan rolled his eyes. “It doesn’t make any sense. First of all, Zhang Shu is a woman. Why would she dream of being a child? That’s just weird.”

Zhou Xiao Zhen snorted. “You’re the one who’s weird. I dream of being a guy all the time. Sometimes I’m not even human. I’m a dragon, or a unicorn, or a mermaid.”

Ma Shan looked at her incredulously. “You’re kidding, right?”

Zhou Xiao Zhen shook her head. “Nope. I’m serious. Don’t you ever dream of being something else?”

Zhu Miao Miao raised her hand. “I do! I do! I dream of being a guy too. And I have a super cool identity.”

Zhou Xiao Zhen leaned forward. “What is it?”

Zhu Miao Miao grinned. “I’m the leader of the Beggar Sect. I have a loyal army of beggars who follow my orders. I fight against the corrupt officials and the evil warlords. I’m a hero of the people.”

The others stared at her blankly.

“…”

Yu Xiao felt a headache coming on. She wished she had listened to Dr Fan Xing and waited for more information before entering Dr. Qu’s dream. She should have done more re

She looked like she was about to combust.

That night, the group divided into two rooms. Yue Yue and Tan Qiao Yin took one, while Ripley and Yu Xiao took the other.

Yu Xiao initially protested. She wanted to clarify that there was nothing romantic between her and Ripley, that they were as platonic as two people could be. But the others insisted that it made sense for them to share a room.

Yu Xiao didn’t see how it made any sense at all, but she decided to go along with it for the sake of the quest. She could handle one night with Ripley.

But then, she had another nightmare, just like the previous one.

Ripley was lying on the bed, with a large pot positioned at the foot of it. A shadowy figure was stirring something inside the pot before approaching the bed. It seized Ripley by the ankles, pulling him off the bed and throwing him into the pot, where he disappeared into the bubbling liquid…

Yu Xiao woke up with a start, her heart pounding.

The sun was already up. The curtains were closed, but some rays of light managed to sneak through the gaps.

Yu Xiao glanced at Ripley, who was lying next to her. He sensed her movement and quickly shut his eyes, feigning sleep.

“Are you Dr. Qu?” Yu Xiao whispered.

Ripley opened his striking blue eyes and gave her a baffled look. “What?” He shook his head. “No, I’m not.”

“Are you sure?” Yu Xiao pressed. She couldn’t shake off the suspicion. Why else would she have nightmares about him two nights in a row?

“I’m sure.” Ripley said firmly. “I’m not lying to you.”
